I use one of these, with a 2x4 laid across the opposite side to prevent putting all the pressure on on spot of the rim:




It breaks the bead of tubeless tires on Y-spokes and more modern rims just fine. I don't know how many of you have a large one of these hanging around your shop, but I know Ken does.

Edit: I had only looked at the first page, didn't see this had already been mentioned. Yes, I can guarantee that it does work just fine.

I didn't need to leave home to buy anything, Howzat!

Now I'm absolutely guaranteed NOT to get a puncture.

I didn't try to break the bead on the rear though, there's no tube in there!(yet)
So I figure if it works easily on the front, it will do the same on the rear. It 'just' fits through the spokes on the rear but interestingly, not all of them.

Trouble is, I made it for when I put a tube back in there.(temporarily)

I was torn between the ease of fixing a tubeless flat in the outback (5 minutes), and having to fix a hell of a lot more if I took a big hit and lost the tyre off the rim, due to not having a tube in there.

Wow, very impressive Jeff! Functional looking and attractive to boot. I'm saving copies of the pics for the future in case I ever decide I need one of my very own.
