Good luck with your efforts. Way too much is made of aligning the gaps some special way.
A few times I have had to open an engine shortly after assembly and never have found the gaps where I put them. I don't know if they rotate 1 RPM, but they could. Two cycle engines pin the rings so that when the ring rotates, the ends don't end up in a port.
No question, they do rotate. So why obess over where they are placed upon installation?
