I got the Mikuni's pre jetted. I know that's a one size fits all approach. I haven't been confident enough to fiddle with those carburetors for a long time. Vanzen, major, me109 and others passed on enough information for me to take a turn at it. I did some reading about the subject and feel better about making some changes. Getting feedback here also helps me make changes. It's really true what many bikers say about these boxers, there is so much that can be done to them, a rider can modify the boxer to whatever type of purpose they have in mind and the way it's intended to be ridden. I really love the boxer design and enjoy riding these bikes.

The stock air intake and exhaust system are really quite well designed and tuned to work together
to deliver what was advertised by BMW marketing as "balanced performance".
A competently engineered working compromise of performance, reliability, and longevity
which may be defined in performance characteristics
as a healthy torque curve through the low and mid range RPMs
while developing a moderate max HP.
Any engine can be tuned or modified to produce a performance package
that was never intended by the factory ...
... Be careful what you wish for.

Reminds me of Mr. Penske one year at Detroit's road race. Looking at the rulebook and knowing that was an all torque track, he quietly and secretly completely modified their engines just for there (bet he intended on creaming people everywhere, on the road courses that season but....) He had their tiny turbocharged V8's firing two cylinders simultaneously!
Ate everyone alive - that is until CART decided doing such a thing "really was not in the spirit of the rules" and made a specific rule against such a thing mid-season, (meaning it was announced along with the official race results within the next day or so...) although they did not pull his 1,2,3 photo finish at Detroit...
