I like those Bridgestone S-11 Spitfires. I was on my 3rd set when I decided to quit riding.

I don't ever remember going out to the garage and being repulsed by their tread pattern...



The price is great, they hold well in wet weather and wear like iron.
And they will likely allow you to lean as far as you dare.

I liked the look of BMW's in the '70's/'80's (my Japanese-bike riding co-workers at the time told me BMW put the "ug" in ugly... )..............

...............AND to make matters worse, I liked the looks of the R65!

I like Michelin Road Pilot 2 or 3's. Hands-down, they are the best tires for a motorcycle. Handsome tread design too. Sometimes I sit out in the garage, admiring the tread pattern on my Road Pilots. Or is it Pilot Roads?

And I like Valvoline 20W-50 oil. Bar-none, it's the best oil there is.

My point is simply that I have no interest in debating or starting a conversation about what is the most important characteristic of a tire because I know everyone has their own opinion. That's why I was so specific with my post -not because I'm an opinionated snob from Kauai (really big of you Motorhead) -but because I respect peoples time and the concept of forums as a place to help one another by exchanging USEFUL information. I'm tired of forums and threads turning into pissing matches about how this is better than that and boy is that ugly, I'd never do something like that.

The fact is any new tire that can be purchased will perform well enough for use. Some are better than others with regard to durability, performance and looks. These three characteristics in addition to cost are what seem to set the choices apart for /5's. And as Duane pointed out you can't have your cake and eat it too, which is why durability is at the top of my list and performance at the bottom because these two characteristics are somewhat inversely proportional in the tire/rubber world. I sell rubber products everyday, so I have a pretty good understanding of rubber composition and how it affects the performance of a product.

For the record, I am not new to forums (just new here) and am happy to share my first hand experiences with people if it can be of help to them. I don't care to waste my time making stupid comments or criticisms. Personally I'd rather spend that time designing, fabricating and building stuff because that is what I love to do.

Once again I'd like to thank those who offered useful information. Thanks to you, I now have a nice list of tire options that fit well with my specific needs.

So what I read out of this is that Bridgestone has some fans and Michelin some. What about Metzeler? I'm looking for a new set for my /6. Priorities: safety, handling then wear. looks? well..I don't really see my tyre whilst riding..But I'm planning on tidying up the /6 a bit. Actually I think the modern patterns look good on a old bike.
