Again, by no means an indictment, Chuey – Just an observation.
It seems that we all (more or less) subscribe to the usual plot and story lines ...
Perhaps you have hit upon the reason for it, though:
First and foremost, with MC-tripping, we will be seeking that "sense of adventure"
and those (shared with the MC-community) expectations serve to define the nature of the story telling.

You really should see the Virgin River Gorge. It is one of the most spectacular pieces of road I've seen. That is due to the rock formations - seven miles worth - that play with your mind's idea of level. I'd like to see a geologist's cornputer generated re-enactment of how that place was formed. Hills jut up on angles that contradict other hills that just up on different angles. It is truly disorienting and baffling. You go from boring desert road to this attraction in about a quarter of a mile. The road is rough. The bends, sweeping. I wish I had a movie of it to show here.

Thanks, Steve. It's cool that the video maker put some history on his video, also cool that he likes that stretch of road as much as I do. Too bad the film isn't clearer. You can get a little bit of the feeling of how what you see on the horizon isn't level and can sometimes feel disorienting as far as the sense of where or what level is. I suspect that they'll be doing construction on the road soon, as the left lane has become pretty rough.

Chuey, did you change the quality setting? That clip can be viewed at 720p, and then is much clearer. The button is the one on the right side of the bottom of the screen - the button that looks like the profile of a 6-tooth gear.

Nice trip report. I always apprecate your sensabilities and veiwpoint. I pack a camelback when I cross the desert heat. I too add nearly half the bag with cubed ice with the rest water. It lasts on my back for nearly 2.5 hours/160 miles keeping me cool through the Darian suit.

anyway, I am doing a similar route on my CS late this month. Unlike you, I hope to have a few riders with me. Care to share your route & What spares did you carry?

Yep, seconded ...I just found it up here by accident . That bike is sweet Chuey , a real tourer . I never seem to cover much ground, I travel slow and I'm always seeing something to stop and look at ! It sounds as if you really know how to eat those miles.

TEA. Too much tea in really hot conditions will contribute to kidney stones. Guys are especially sensitive!
Best to drink plain ole water if you are sweating like a race horse! Add some lemon juice if you want a bit of flavor.
Not ice-cold either. Cool is OK.
