Does not a 247 oil filter cover fasten with three "bolts" and seal with a [$2000] o-ring?
I didn't look at the link, I will admit, and I didn't read the thread or post where he recently mentioned the bike.
It was the "an oil filter cover" rather than a "the oil filter cover." It implied (to me) that he was describing something with which he did not expect us to be familiar. Normally the sentence would be more like: "I have stripped the thread where the bolt that attaches the oil filter cover goes into the case." Certainly there would have been no need to mention that there's an o-ring.
If the post had not been from someone with whom we are familiar, I probably wouldn't have read all that into it.

So as there are some usable threads past the stripped ones I've ordered a couple of longer bolts 2 sizes. Maybe I will get lucky and have enough threads left to tighten up on. If not I will have to disassemble and do a thread repair. Maybe I will get lucky and can wait till I do the clutch. If I do get lucky I will apply silicone rubber to the head of the bolt when I tighten it for security. Thank you for your input!

I will check tomorrow when I get to work. I think my 6mm helicoil kit has a pretty long tap supplied with it. If that is the case, I would be happy to mail it to you for your repair. There's a lot going on at the shop right now, so feel free to remind me if it seems I have forgotten to check.

How long is that tap Chuey? The ones I've seen are no where long enough to get to the bottom of 3 inches. I think all threads in aluminum should be inserted with steel inserts as. But I am a heretic.

I'll be able to measure it tomorrow.
