Dang! I ended up the straight guy in a joint joke.
Wait till Chuey sees this.
I was trying hard not to put a joint joke in as it would have been way too expected

So far, so good.
It might just slip away unnoticed.

Hi Guys

Thanks a lot for the replies - always worth checking that that thing that you think should come easily *really should* come out easily before you apply more force.

Cheers, Andy

Ha! Jeff, I saw the thread. Late, but I'm here nonetheless. Funny, I was thinking I hadn't seen Steve in Golden post about welding before, not that he's laid all his cards on the table. I still wouldn't have gotten the straight line either. I guess we should remember he is in the state that has legalized applications of heat in order to turn joints THC free.

What I was surprised about from the start is that "drops" of weld, which seemed like a perfectly understandable description of what is needed, took precedence over the "power coating" typo. Man, I'd like to get me some of that power coating!

Oh, wouldn't the need to remove two bearings be a good reason to buy a TIG welder?

Sure would Chuey. But there are many reasons good enough to get a TIG welder. Just one that comes to mind is, "Gee, I really want a TIG welder."

Of course if a guy has a significant other, she could trump the above rationale. In a case like that I would go with my best shot, which to the uninitiated might resemble a blend of romancing, promises, and groveling.

Next thing everyone will want a spray torch to make business cards with their info actually in metal!

I think the data (and jokes) all got across. There are three modes of MIG welding; the person that came up with the names was likely not anticipating this sort of questioning of said names - including the pot reference(s)... To my knowledge, which is faltering quickly as suggested, the MIG transfer modes would be, Short Circuit, Spray, and Globular. Each have their place - and it's neat to think one is ripping our beloved BMW's apart to powder coat them.

I am really on the fence about the powder coating thing. My frame and such is not all torn up and ragged, paint missing, etc (perhaps underneath some where I cannot see???) but the amount of labor and dollars to come up with something that is supposed to be far better than a method that has lasted on my bike for 41-42 years makes me question either using a good paste wax and calling it a day, or paying for a nice lacquer job just as BMW originally supplied. But that's just me. :-)

Ken, check your PM's when you get a chance, thanks. ;)
