Edit: fuel issue, not HES. It's the HES. I connected the available HES and, on the lift, the bike revved as it should.

I'm waiting to find out how to remove the cover of this bean can to replace the duff sensor before putting it all back together again.

Cover off, Used a bolt to press/lift it out.
Getting down to the HES's was straightforward, but stumped now. I can't figure how to remove the non functional HES.

Circlip off. Must buy a better tool. Screw a longer 6mm bolt into the centre hole and the cover pushes out.

Hold the round spinning piece whilst removing the 4 small bolts. Take care not to squeeze too hard then lift it off...

There are two HES's in there. Here's one.

If I could figure how to get it out without damaging anything. It'll be a simple answer but I sat and looked at it for a while...and it has me stumped.

Aren't there rivets that need to be drilled out?

I can't identify any unless it's these two small circular things either side..it's where they're held but I'm unsure how to proceed and don't want to unless I know it's the correct method.

Here you go: http://www.deathstar.org/~flash/ig_trig.html The rivet have to be drilled out and can be replaced with pop rivets or nuts and bolts.

It's a different can to the oem one Tim, so I'm waiting for more info from the seller. I pulled it all out with the plan of replacing the duff sensor as I have a couple.

That is not great news Steve. I just bought one of them month or so a go.

Trying to find info from the distributor might not be that easy, but I could be wrong.

Be confident Dan, as it turns out, this whole problem turns out to be fuel related! d'oh!
I swapped the second connector over and it ran and revved freer, albeit on the lift. It had been quite rough when tested on the road. Previous to this episode it was running well.

Intuitively, before I delved towards the HES, I had emptied the tank, flushed it and the taps, cleaned the filters etc...without success. Static flow was good, as it usually is. Tested with the cap loose too. So next step HES.

Road testing the second lead had the same problem this evening. So I swapped in my old oem can. Whilst doing that a kamikase possum took out the street lighting so I was working with a torch. That also happened last night, so no power for an hour or so.

Anyhow, it too showed the same problem. It'd go 15-18kms then die, but restart after a while. So next time it did it, I stopped and checked the float bowls, which were both empty. Got home, swapped in a set of Germas I had and bingo...it went 30km+ and ran well.

John from Red Centre Ignition has been excellent in answering questions, providing the answers I was after. Luckily I didn't go too far into the can.

The good things.
1. I have new tools, being 3 types of new circlip pliers. My other set was tired and almost useless. Binned it.
2. My fuel system has had a good going over.
3. My ignition system has too.
4. I've learned a few things about the Red Centre ignition can. I didn't go in too far!
5. I made a new set of alternator to diode board wires because I saw one of the wires was deteriorating. The charge light goes out quicker now. It had been going out a bit higher than usual lately.

The bad thing.
It always takes ages to get to the issue!

It's a good thing when it works though in'it!

I hope that's not another example of "famous last words!"
