I will check with George, but I have heard rumors about your maintenance practices, so I think I am going to pass on your gearbox.

Does an 79 R65 have the same box as a 75 R90/6??

Yes.
Which is not to say that Rob's box is the box for YOU.

I wouldn't even guarantee that the case is any good.
But the price is reasonable! ;)

Talking to Jim cray in the uk about new part availability, he said that he was finding that some common new parts were only available on order, but that they would eventually arrive, it was as if they were being made to order. He was also finding that the prices of some parts from BMW were going up in leaps and bounds, s0 for instance main wiring looms for my 82 coast around £125 5 years ago, they are now over £400.......

In general terms we are very lucky that BMW still seem to find it worth their while to support these bikes in terms of providing a wide range of new spares and second hand spares are still easy enough to find, at least in the uk where there are 3 mainstream businesses that provide SH spares.

Over the next 20 years or so it might be that it is the skills required to keep these bikes running that is in short supply as it seems that it is only old farts suchs as ourselves that expect to gain pleasure from maintaining and improving these old bikes. Charles
