True, TANSTAAFL prevails as always. But if, in their infinite engineering wisdom, they have indeed made the starter more efficient with "high strength permanent magnets" instead of "conventional field coils, requiring less amperage to turn the starter over" then the claims might not be inflated.

To add to that, it is geared down rather than direct drive. Totally different design.

So I installed the new starter in my /5 last night. It cranks the engine over like it was hooked up to a public utlity. It should, it's new.

It seems to me that it is quieter than the Valaeo was when it was new, but that is subjective on my part. We'll see how it sounds after starting a cold airhead all winter. :twisted:

All in all, I will attempt to keep Chinese Crap off of my German motorcycle whenever possible. It's more and more of a struggle every day.
Besides, 4 new bushings and a set of brushes and the old Bosch is like new again.
