Not sure about the cable set up Steve?, but will certainly accept your offer of my cables return you still have them laying around your shed

Is spending fathers day cleaning and sorting the shed out, moving this and that, throwing a few things and making room for the RS

My '79 R65 had twin cables for the throttle. I think they put the splitter on in '80 or '81.
Of course 248s are a bit different, but they usually followed the R65s lead on these small "improvements".

Yep I picked it up yesterday and called into SteveD's place on the way back home, we fired it up on the trailer and it runs fine although a little rough on idle and the pipes are a little on the loud side and throatie to the ears actually I don't mind it.
SteveD then dragged me back into it his RS mancave and handed me an arm full of spares that will come on handy for now and get me going.

As always the photos on the advert made it look neater than in person, but I brought from the other side of Oz so I had to expect that, it will clean up nicely, it starts and runs fine, the rear drive has very little play or movement in it which is a bonus and the gearbox changes are smooth, as when I got it home I through on the helmet and gave it a couple of laps around the block, it certainly pulls away good and I rolled back into the driveway with a big grin on my face..






Being different to my old 1981 RS, I worked out how to remove the air cleaner and I have a Haymes Manual in the post and coming this week which will help me more

After dinner I got it up on the lift and started to have a poke about to see what and how it all looked underneath, to which I found a few loose and wayward wires that were taped up, which is a good place to start!! next a list of smallers bits n pieces will be made
I have time on my side with this bike resto, as the "K" is tucked away in the corner for summer rides!



This bunch of wires was a little confusing hanging off the left side all taped up, one wire went down to the oil sensor and then onto the neutral switch but all the others went nowhere, then rear indicators and brake light are off a separate loom and work fine.. any guess's as to what and where they belong??



If anyone has a wiring diagram that you could post up that would be helpful at this stage - Thank you

The elbow grease got put to good work the other day on the RS fairing etc. to give the flying blood clot a little more sparkly n shine, the red certainly jumps off the bike now, plus I repainted all the inside areas of the fairing and side covers with a satin black "bumper paint" which I have used before, is quick, very effective, comes in a rattle can and sticks like %$@# to a blanket.





So while the paint was drying and I was sitting there with coffee in hand watching the paint dry, its a signwriter thing!! I grabbed the windscreen and also gave it a licking with the same satin black, I just love a dark painted screen
The faded old panniers could not escape my attention so the coffee was finished in earnest and they were given a good wipe over with prepsol followed by a light sanding and yes they to were transformed and soon propped up next to the woodheater along with the mounting frames to dry, all now looking rather freshened and newish (from a distance)



Then I thought about a decal for the Krauser panniers, so I jumped on the signshop computer and grabbed one from a file and made up the two long narrow ones which I quiet liked? again I sat a looked at them for a bit to take it all in..





Not knowing that Krauser had a logo and branding for the panniers after chatting to SteveD I then located the correct round version of the decal which are no longer available, so now I will make up these next week and maybe even list a few on ebay to flog off...



Today being saturday I was straight out in the shed and I had some polishing to do, both wheels with the front being quiet pitted, the engine casing as my engine badges from Timo arrived will be installed later today and also the rear diff.
The local metal polishing bloke collected the exhaust system which he is giving the once over on and also dropped me off a jam jar full of alloy polish, not sure what brand it is but bloody hell goes it work a treat... Very happy with the result!!





Anyways it all coming along nicely.....
