Buying advice for guy returning to BMWs - R75/6
Re: Buying advice for guy returning to BMWs - R75/6
Congrats! Welcome to the Best Bike Ever, the 1975 R75/6.
Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.

The bike looks great. I agree with the major...some stripes would look even better.
Would the '75 use the white faced clock and vm?

Are stripes hard to do? I assume a sign writer or similar. Or can the enthusiastic amateur not ruin it

I have seen an enthusiastic amateur attempting to teach himself, but that was decades ago, and I don't know how it turned out.Porge wrote:Are stripes hard to do? I assume a sign writer or similar. Or can the enthusiastic amateur not ruin it
The only other place I've seen it done was by a pro that specialized in cars and bikes, and the occasional Coke machine (no stripes).
If you wanted a pro, I would sniff out a prime mover shop.

Andrew, one of our inmates is a signwriter and very good pinstriper - Steady Hand Grant of Trafalgar (grant81rs) lives and works just across the ditch from you. Check his RS refurb in the Motorcycling forum. So, when you come to the big island for one of our Oz Boxerworks rallies ...
ps: your list of bikes indicates excellent taste in motorcycles. I'd love to see pics of your Matchless. I was afflicted with a 1951 Matchless and a 1954 AJS many years ago.

Nice!
I've a mate who's a spray painter and a guitarist as well - he owes me for some guitar work. I might see if he can sort it.
Will post some pics tonight. Bike swap occurred this morning. Have some work ahead of me, I think

Bike is in the shed! Haven't had any time to fettle the bike yet. Keeping the wife happy
Here's another shot of the bike. Note the panniers and rack.

RHS switchgear

LH switchgear. Came with a new clutch perch as the old one is cracked at the mirror mount

The tank cap. I presume I'm missing a gasket here? (Note the SR500 photobombing it.)

At the factory in 1972, I watched the women do the pin stripping. I realized that I could do it too. I got the brushes and started practicing on my dealership front counter. The customers loved it. I got as good as those women, but what took them a few minutes, took me an hour.
I enjoyed doing it.
