April - May is absolutely the best time o' year here in the middle of NSW!
I save my holidays for then. March will often still carry Summer's sting.

It would be great to have you visit ZM.

On another topic, I am looking likely for the Island Bend Run, Saturday night only.
Plan to loop through Canberra (stop the night maybe) and then come back via Tumut.

cheers
Mal

ME 109 wrote:April can be quite nice, not too hot and not too cold. All roads over the mountains are open at that time of year. Tassie would be ok too, but weather can be more unpredictable at that time.
I lived in Tassie (for a brief 20 years), March/ April would be my pick for slightly dependable weather it usually doesn't get really crappy till early June. They used to say that Tassie has two seasons Feb/ Mar and winter.

Most of the B roads are brilliant, and away from the more mundane highways. Include Pyengana, Elephant Pass, Queenstown, Scotsdale siding, most of the east coast, across the top, Devonport to Cradle Mt and Burnie / Hobart run, plus most of the intervening bits.

For 15 years we had a farm at a place called Holwell on the west Tamar which had a magnificent 20km of mountain to Beauty Pt, each way each day for work, I'd barely ever see another vehicle, another brilliant rd.

Tassie's good, but, that run we did in Nov from Tallangatta to Bruthen for the spring fling, would take a lot of beating.

Top info, Mal.

ZM will have to wait till they fix the ship to Tassie, after it broke free of its mooring at Station Pier yesterday.
It was still floating today so that's a good start.
Wait a minute, there's a spare ship.
Booking a berth might be advisable?

Ducati Pete is coming to Island Bend too. It's gonna be a big band!

Yep, that time of year might be already booked, esp now as they have just the one boat. Whatever you do ZM, don't be tempted by the cheaper deckchairs to sleep on.

I think the first thing would be to come and apologise to my kangaroos for calling them rabbit camels.
Then I'm sure we could come up with thousands of kilometres of excellent riding. We could probably do it in miles if that helps.
You might like to do a combination of camping, pub or motel, and stay with various Oz Boxerworks members.
Do it man, you'll dig it!
Good idea Charlie, we could do a Zombie Rally!
I want to make peace with the camel err Roos. If I were to be able to come where would you suggest I fly into.So April would be good? I guess I would need to rent a bike KLR, or sumptin'. Could you recommend me a outfit for that?

Melbourne or Sydney, ZM. Depends where the best hire bike deal is.
I'm sure that you will get to ride an airhead in Aus. You'll get to ride mine, at least.
You can stay at my place when you're near here during your travels, and get to see some authentic kangaroo boxing matches. They happen just about daily here, on what I call the 'boxing ring'
We can get stuff organised over here, if you come.
Yes, April is good.

Hey I happened to take a s/h KLR for a test ride yesterday. Near 30 years since I rode one last, a much loved early model 600. They sure have grown porky! I liked it though, comfy perch.

On the lookout for a second bike, going to Sydney for the weekend and calling in on the Royal Enfield dealer. I have a yearning for one, yeah yeah I should stay away from shite Indian engineering but they look and sound so good. AND the performance accessories you can get are amazing ...

Thanx very much for your info! I've got to check a bunch of things. I really hate this part, with the arrangements.

Would a coastal ride from Brisbane to Adelaide be a good idea if I had 3 weeks? If I make it, it would be great to meet up with you! Sounds fantastic. You could teach me how to talk ;)

Kitted DR650 would certainly be familiar, the stock carb really sucked....poorly, and I had to change it out.

Visa should be easy, if you even need one? Plane ticket, bring your riding gear, motorcycle hired, cash.
Brisbane to Adelaide would be easy in three weeks. Work out a strategy to pick up bike near where you land in Aus, do the trip and end up back where you started.
Adelaide to Melbourne 7 hours, Melbourne to Sydney 5 hours, Sydney to Brisbane prolly 5 hours too.
State borders are just lines on maps. You can go where ever you bloody well want to go over here, pretty much.
I could take a few days or more off work to ride with you. I'm sure some of the other blokes could too.

You got 10 weeks to get yer shit together man!
