I had it for 7 years. A buck jumped out in front of me from nowhere and my brakes, though fully fettled, were inadequate. The bike would cruise nicely at 80 mph and handled very well. A man made me a very favorable offer. Was a very good machine!

I did have to put Timeserts in ALL the stud holes on the left side of the motor - but that actually didn't show up as a failure until a month or two after I bought it, by which time I'd already put over 1,000 miles on it. Other than that, which only took a day, it has just been a few minor things - replaced the cracked HT coil, put on new tires when it needed them, replaced the front disk pads, and, just today, received a new windshield which I'll apply soon.

Out for a ride today (Sunday, August 15, 2010) to Capitola, CA by way of Calaveras Road - one of my favorites.
This is the 1988 R100RT I got for $500 from a dealer almost exactly a year ago and had running the next afternoon. I've put over 11,000 miles on it in the last 11 months. Nice addition to my "stable." A new Clearview windshield should arrive this week to replace the one I crunched with my garage door - dummy!
John, I still think you take the cake for the deal of the century! WHAT A GREAT LOOKING RT! I don't recall what you had to do to it to get it going, but it sounds like all it took was doing the basic tune up/settings.

Rob,
I got stuck trying to post and then the kids came calling. Don't understand what went wrong as I used the image button, and then inserted the address between the two

"The Mule" - a 1978 R100/7 I used to own.
Black: the only proper color for a motorcycle.
