Ross, that's a bummer. Heal soon.
You blokes have a wonderful time now. And try to avoid besmirching the name of the squadron. I expect photographic evidence of appropriate sartorial elegance and deportment.
I'll be there in spirit, while pounding the keyboard all weekend. My next ride will be to the Alpine Rally at Brindabella to celebrate Her Majesty's birthday in the usual style.
Feel free to drop in at the Bethanga Retreat for coffee etc in yer travels.

Too right Charlie, I just chucked me Italian made dinner jacket in the washing machine to get the last rally and mud wasp nests off it.
I quite liked the mud wasp nests, all lined up like medals on my lapel but I'm sure they would have disintegrated on the way. And the blokes wooda just thought I was a grub.
Good luck with the homework man!

Have a good ride lads.
I'll be riding to Beechworth tomorrow night but will be back in Melbourne by 11:30am Saturday. This is the weekend my usual Snowy Mountains ride has been organised for, and I can't make the rest of that either.
I'll be going via Healesville/Black Spur/Taggerty/Eildon/Jamieson Brewery for lunch/Mansfield/Whitfield/Milawa/Beechworth. Not a bad run if I do say so myself.

Well, I'm home from my truncated overnighter. I left Beechworth at 0645 and arrived in Melbourne at 10:00. Good time, especially as it was a pea souper over the Tolmie Road.
The day here is now glorious, and I'm well informed by friends that Jingellic is clear blue skies and autumn leaves everywhere.
Hopefully that weather extends thru the Snowies all the way to Captains Flat and stays that way for Geehi too. Have a great weekend y'all, y'here!

I just arrived home. Fantastic run, one of the best rides I have ever done. Great to catch up with everyone and enjoyed the wine and beer and conversations at the Captains flat hotel. Sorry didn't take a single pic while I was there, but grabbed some shots on the way back today. Jeff, Pete, Bob and the rest were all heading to Geehi to camp tonight. Shame I have to be at work tomorrow.
I managed to stay on back-roads almost the whole way home. This was a great explore, high country farmlands between Gunning and Rugby .. somewhere .. the signposting was hit and miss and so I managed to get a bit lost.
Now you don't see this in the big city do ya ..
and the bike ran like an express train. !000km with the R100S top end. No leaks and burning no oil and only a bit of misting that nobody would ever notice or if they did they would be too polite to point it out (eh Pete!)
even the law is a bit different out in these parts
By the time I arrived home though, the strain of all was starting to tell. The speedo needle waved at me, and snapped off, then it tried to make a smiley face ...

Great shots Mal!
Glad you had a good time. I did as well, and it was mucho good to catch up with the other guys again.
Plenty of photos and vids but I won't get a chance to put them here for a little while.
Another excellent night at Geehi with open fire, most of the bikes under cover and some good tucker.

It's a great spot and sounds like an even better night.

Another great ride with a great bunch of blokes.
The Pub is a marvelous example of 30s architecture and in good nick, a new roof going on at
the moment which will keep it up to scratch in the future, a couple of shots taken on Sunday morning.
Then we went over to Geehi where I failed to take any photos, it rained a bit overnight and was
showering in the morning, so a wet pack up and the tent is still drying out.
Once I was back over Dead Horse Gap the weather started to clear up so I had a great ride home.
Thanks everyone for another fantastic weekend

Greetings from essayland.
Good stuff, gents. I'm sorry I missed it. Glad to hear that all went well despite a little bit of weather.
Bob, that's a nice run over Dead Horse Gap. I look forward to introducing Brunhilde to it.
Mal, your mostly worry free motorcycling is an impressive achievement given the last minute uncertainties. And hey, what's a little mist between otherwise intimately engaged mechanical components? I'll be interested to know if the smiley face speedo is repairable.
Gotta love the policeman sculpture. Where is that? Should be more of that sort of thing but I'm not going to bring up the subject with our new local walloper. He looks a bit ... um ... porky and serious.

G'day Charlie, Hope you got that essay in. That's at Cumnock. The town must have a resident sculptor. Lots of unexpected things to see all along the road out through Yeoval. My favorite was a giant surprised sheep on a bicycle in the middle of a huge vivid green paddock. It made me smile, and that's when me speedo starting cracking up come to think of it ....
If anyone's coming up this way (and y'all should) I HIGHLY recommend Gunning to Rugby via Wheeo Road, then Frogmore to Canowindra, Manildra to Cumnock (via Gumble) and then to Dubbo on Obley Road. I tried to draw it on Google Maps but it doesn't believe I went that way. It must ride a Harley.
cheers
Mal
ps I was hoping someone could tell me what the foxes mean. Seems it was the local practice to decorate the roadsides. And they had no end of foxes.
