Mal - The Great Ocean Road and Easter traffic
Hmmm Never thought about that thanks Grant. Do you reckon they would be all going the other way, back to the big smokes, by Monday?
Hard to say Mal, may of eased by then
but it is just a busy time of year at Easter on the roads down here around those touristy spots... You know how those caged up, chromed up and cashed up urban assault vehicle driving knobs can be, all logo-ed up and not a care in the world for anyone outside of their automatically climate controlled cell with a little 91.5 SmoothFM playing softly in the background while Prue and True mumble on about their upcoming OS jaunt to the Greek Islands for Yacht Week 2015... You'll be right mate!!

Mal, it'll be horrible just past Port Campbell until the 14th April, but might be ok between Lavers Hill and Apollo Bay. Just north of AB head inland at Skenes Creek Road towards Forrest. No guarantee of a quiet ride still. With restrictions these days the GOR is now overrated. No longer would we get away with a Le Mans start outside the AB pub and last to Lorne buys the next beer! Then add the traffic factor over easter. One slow frustrating nightmare on a bike.
Alternatively, from Portland to Bendigo there's Halls Gap, back roads to Ararat, Avoca, Maryborough, Dunolly ..Bendigo. 400KMS ...a nice day ride. To Dargo, bypass Melbourne via Eppalock, Redesdale, Lancefield, Romsey, Wallan, Flowerdale....there's a bed here if required. If you need a tyre, I can have one here for you so Easter won't be a problem. The Thursday/Friday post Easter is great for me.
I can guarantee the roads will be good from Melbourne's east to Dargo on the Thursday. Powelltown, Noojee, Traf, Tyers....Maffra, Briagalong..Dargo.
From there the mountains are unavoidable! Your only problem is too many choices.

Thursday Friday 9-10 April at Dargo.
Works for me. Does that work for all others involved?
I'd probably head down there Thursday and back Friday pm.
Charlie, do you have an exact spot in mind?

Those days are OK with me,
I think Charlie's spot at the north end of the Dargo Rd looks good and the Dargo Pub
sounds nice, do they have a place to set up the tent nice and close?
Regards Bob.

G'day all
The spot I am thinking of on the Dargo River is here, 6kms from Dargo as the crow flies:
Dargo township is at the lower end of the white line. The campsite is only 2 or 3 kms along the Upper Dargo Road. There are more great spots a couple of kms further along. According to GoogleMaps the coordinates are -37.409316, 147.264762
Now, as to timing, I'll be fine to get there on the Thursday 9 April (I think) but doubt if Jeff or any other full time workers would be able to get there until the Saturday. I'll do a bit of phoning around and see what folks are up to. Perhaps another more northerly spot could be chosen for a weekend gathering on Mal's way home after Dargo. We'll see.

I can see my crank through about four different holes, and my cam through eight different holes.
I'll try for Friday.

So where are we going on the 9th and 10th? Yes, that's a purely rhetorical question.
And the campsite Charlie has picked out too.
My checklist-
- Fabricate new pannier rack brackets. Check.
- New back Michelin hPilot. Check.
- Retard the timing to stop the #*%$ pingin'. Check.
- Balance the Carbs. Nope, now runs like a pig round town (see above), but cruises OK .. ish.
- Pack gear for two weeks on the road. Nope, but there are a few days left.
Lookin' forward to catching up.
cheers
Mal

btw Steve I don't think I will brave Melbourne traffic anymore that I have to. I am planning on riding Bendigo to Bright on the morning of the 9th and then South to Dargo. Hope to catch up with Charlie (and Jeff?) on the way
