Thanks Mal. I'll check out that road one day.

ps I was hoping someone could tell me what the foxes mean. Seems it was the local practice to decorate the roadsides. And they had no end of foxes.
The song 'Strange Fruit' comes to mind. I think it is supposed to act as a deterrent. I'll guess that any foxes driving by would think twice before pulling in to boil the billy at a roadside stop.

These foxes didn't heed the message either. They were south of Bethanga, found after leaving Airbear's 60th birthday celebration weekend!

Do you think there are Oz rancher forums we could go to to find out? I am sure they are the ones behind it. They love killing stuff and building fences, you know.

Hey guys,
Awesome w/end again. Great roads, fantastic country, meeting nice ppl with like-minded companions – a little drizzle but mostly warm sunshine and dry mountain roads. Who could ask for more? Felt like the luckiest man alive for a bit there...
Report:
I headed up to Benalla on the Friday via central Victoria, for a little change. Warm, sunny, no wind magnificent riding weather. (Mt Camel)

Left Benalla with Ken and Mark. Caught up with Jim, John and Jeff at Tallangatta. We then headed for the hills... stopping atop Dead Horse Gap for bladder break...

Caught up w Michael and Al at Cooma... they were a little on their own trip, or so it seemed – fast and furious (and dirty) was their route. We took a slightly different way... via “~20ks of dirt”.. well maybe 40 or 50! oops!. Not too bad a track all the same. Jeff & john at CF turnoff.

Fortunately the Fire Danger was “Low” so we turned left towards Captain's Flat for another 20ks of dirty stuff with the sun rapidly heading southward...

Captain's Flat Hotel: Top pub, and cheap too. Where else can you get a warm, clean bed, chicken dinner and a hot b&e breakfast - and run of the pub - all for $76! (The history lessons came free.) FANTASTIC! According to the landlord, Colin, it was built by four blokes in a couple of years in the 30s... beautiful brick work. Unfortunately I didn't take any shots inside.

The GSs, being the dirty buggers they are, got to park under the stars.

On the way out of town we checked out the Lake George mine which helped build the town (and the pub). Apparently the water in the local Molonglo river is now heavily polluted as a consequence. When you climb up to the mine sitting above town you can see why...
