Top Dead Center and other winterizing questions?

Could someone point me to a step by step description of getting the motor to TDC?
From what I've read, I need to crank the kickstarter by hand until OT appears in the timing window. Is there anything else?
Apart from TDC, new oil (mine has less than 500 mile since last change), stabile in the fuel (or completely empty), dumping the bowls, and coating non-painted parts with something to prevent rust (what? wipe down with WD40 soaked rag?), is there anything else I should do before putting the bike up for a few months in the relatively mild pacific northwest?

Make sure you can trickle charge the battery once a month.
And yes that is the correct way of finding TDC. If you don't have a kicker, pull the plugs and put it into 2nd or 3rd gear and roll the engine over that way. While the plugs are out, put a couple of drops of oil in each clyinder and spin the motor a couple of times with the starter.

RIDE IT
I'm with Vanzen. We've already got 4' of snow in Tahoe. If I was in "the relatively mild pacific northwest" I'd be out riding in the rain.

Yeah . . . maybe with a bit more protection, but my naked Slash 5 isn't so much fun in the pouring rain. I'll definitely take a spin should a sunny day present itself on the weekend. But as a somewhat serious (bi)cyclist, I spend enough cold and wet time in the saddle!!
Was looking at a GS earlier this winter, but that will have to wait until next year. That's a bike I would definitely ride year-round.

Battery serviced and on a tender //////////////// installe the battery and start the motor
block the frame and adjust the tires so both are not touching the ground ///// lower and remove the blocks
drain the fuel and run the motor dry /////////// remember you fully dryed the carbs so wait a few minutes for them to fill
remove the gas tank add Mistry oil roll for full coverage and drain as use later /////// Add fresh gas
wash and coat the would thing in wax or oil ////////////////////// remove the coating by polishing
I'd deflat the tires and apply a oil base hand cleaner //////////////// coat the tines in a oil base hand cleaner and inflate
to get it going again reverse the work done

As the one item mentioned before I added my list was correct in the top end discreprion oil, spin, and TDC I didn't want to sound repeting
and the answer to "and"....................return to service!
