Front snowflake bearing 1982 R100

bit of play,going to replace bearings, any advice? which includes a breakdown pic of the shaft with all bits on it,I have a factory manual but can not find it.

It may just need the pre-load adjusting but inspection, clean and re-grease before hand is the minimum that should be done. There is no short and quick guidance on how to do this. Take a look here:

First thing to do is to verify that you have steel bearing seats in your cast wheels. You can easily do this with a magnet. The reason is that the early, all-aluminum wheels have a MUCH different bearing replacement procedure.
