Accessory outlet

So I went to plug in my battery maintainer, only to find that the accessory outlet was broken. The plastic threaded area had cracked.

My local dealer had the parts in stock, and on arriving home with them, I realize that the new outlet is threaded steel and round while the old plastic part is round, but with flat sides to keep it from rotating. The mount on the bike matches the plastic part.

Should I grind off the flat areas on the outlet mount so that the totally round new part will fit?

Also I got a new cover for the outlet.

The old one was rubber and gets shoved into the outlet, while the new one is plastic and is a spring loaded "cover" and does not "seal" in the same way as the old rubber cover.

Just thought I'd post this to see what y'all think. Otherwise my dremel tool with grinding bit is close at hand. :geek:
