I'm having a rough time getting the timing seal out of of the timing cover, to remove the timing gear (Helical Gear wheel) that connects the tach cable and spins off the camshaft gear.

Any tips or suggestions on how to remove it without damaging the timing cover?

The timing cover is off the engine at the moment.

When I did this job recently, I think I pushed the drive gear up and it took the seal out with it.
I didn't need to heat it, as this guy did...

I tried the same method with a screwdriver and tapping it out, and tried prying it out towards the seal using pliers as levers to push it. That seal is in there tight!

Drill a small hole in the seal, screw in a self tapping screw and use a claw hammer (or similar) to lever it out.
