Yes, Mahle supplied filters to BMW in the day. They have also been produced under another name by the same company but my brain has gone to sleep and I can't remember what it was. A German company originally but now producing all over the world.

Is the bike cooler equipped? I think the OX36 is for those bikes. I just replaced the filter in my non-cooler /7 and the number on it is OX37...bendy type filter...part number ends in -570. No manufacturer name on the outside...I bought the change kit at the dealer.

It's very easy to tell the difference. The filter for non-cooler bikes is a bit shorter and has identical rubber seals at each end. They come in rigid or 'bendy' forms, there is no functional difference, the bendy one is a bit easier to fit on bikes fitted with crash bars and/or full fairings.
The oil cooler filter is, by contrast, a bit longer and only has a glued on seal at one end.
FWIW, the Mahle codes are:
OX35 - Straight rigid filter for bikes without oil coolers
OX36 - Bendy filter for bikes with an oil cooler
OX37 - Bendy filter for bikes without an oil cooler.

Thanx Rob, with that info I was able to order a couple filters including shims, O ring, and washers included. Made in Austria. On Amazon they listed the the 0X36 as being the correct one for my non cooler R100. There were some complaints on the reviews:)

Seriously, I did check on line and OX36 is definitely an oil cooler fitment. The other brand name, which I couldn't remember earlier in the thread, is Knecht. If a filter is branded Knecht, it is a Mahle filter.

This evening I got two Mahle filters for my R100S from Amazon.
I can confirm that the part number supplied from Amazon for my bike is incorrect.
But thanx to Rob, I found the correct number, and by ordering the “wrong number,” got the correct filters.
This….is how the world works these days.
The filters are identical to the BMW parts and even the rubber parts are the same colour.
Made in Austria. Der fatherland if truth be told.
The filters came with all needed washers, shim, and O ring required.
I know this kind of news will warm your hearts, and lay bare the criminal intent of the unwashed, to provide frustration an unhappiness.
As is their way.
Of course I could have paid twice the price at the Stealer, but then again, I did have to forgo seeing grown men walking around in clown shoes. As I do at any motorcycle shop in my vicinity.
OH well.
