Cheapest BMW airhead part?
6mm spring washer for the valve cover.

PITA to re-install.
Especially the right front one.
I use these (pic below) instead, much easier, just as secure.
Makes valve checks even easier and quicker than they already are.
Also, if used on things like saddlebag mounts, etc., you don't need a spanner to hold them while tightening the bolt, just a bit of finger pressure needed; they grip the surface and don't turn while you tighten.
Never had one come loose on its own.
Available at any auto parts place, probably for less than BMW charges for the washer alone.

Crashbars, fairing lowers and oil coolers can somewhat hinder accessibility on many models.

Only crash bars (er, case guards!) on my /7.

I've always had two wave washers under those cap nuts. Is that the way they came?

The part number gspd gives shows a total of 8 required for my /7. That indicates two per stud. But only shows 4 total for my R69S.

Hmmm,

curioser and curioser... the BMW parts lists show 8 washers for machines up tp 1984 but from 1985, they only list 4 - same part number. Can't think of any reason why you would want to put two washers on that stud (except to test the patience of DIY mechanics)... I know I never have and have had no ill consequences...
