Sometimes you need a project to fill the time. This looks like one of those. It did start, however.

Great gag! 
He's pressing the starter button while he pulls lawn mower pull-start that's simply fastened to the front cover.
That's why he insisted on 'giving it gas' to start.
Do a frame by frame replay and watch his hand shadow on the ground.
He could have got away with it on a cloudy day!

Lol. This guy reminds me of my grandpa. A show and some cheap tricks to please the crowd. Loved watching him show off his tractors lol.

There's also nothing new in the world...
Pull starter as fitted to the A10B08, a 247 series engine produced by BMW for use as a fire pump or generator donkey engine...
