Back on Two Wheels

As it sometimes does, life threw me a curveball about five years ago, and the bike ended up sitting for that length of time. Now that life's back on track, I've gone through it and it's running again. It felt good to get back out on two wheels.

Anyway. I thought I'd stop by and say high again. I was surprise to see my log in information was not purged.

Good to hear Jeff. Hit those curveballs for 6! ( a mix of sports in that statement)
Reacquaint us with your bike...what have you done to get it back on the road?

ZM: I wish I had some good stories to tell. Unfortunately, I had financial and family health issues; however, there were some good times although they were not motorcycle related. Things are much better now. Family's doing better and the finances are better as well.
The good stories were traveling with my son. We went Chicago about four years ago and took him to Disneyland about two years ago. Those were some good times mixed in the the not so good times.

SteveD: I probably should have done more. Over the years, I kept trying to find time to do the maintenance on the bike to get it ready for the road. I had done a spline lube right fluids change right before things went sideways.

I did clean and go through the bike to make sure that no critters had decided to find a new home. When through all the electrical and the flasher decided to call it quits, so that was replaced. Obviously a new battery. The charging seems low from what I remember. Checked it with a volt meter, and got 13.8-13.9 around 4,000-4,500 at the battery terminals, which seems OK to me. However, there is one downside. As things crept up on me unplanned, I never made the time to drain the fuel from the tank. On the plus side it was half empty, the top half is OK. The bottom half not so much, but not that bad either. I drained the tank and bought a snake camera that connected to my phone. While there is some rust and the tank should be cleaned and relined, a bout half of the lower portion is in OK condition (aka no rust), there are some areas that have light to moderate rust. From the videos I watched online, tanks in much worse condition cleaned up fine. I talked to a few Airhead guru's out here and some suggested I clean the tank out as best I can I, then run inline filters in the short run. I always wanted to get the bike repainted, so I think I'll do it this winter. I'm holding off relining the tank, since there is a small dent that needs to be repaired and I think that should be done before relining.

I probably should have done more before taking it out on its first ride in five years, but I was a bit impatient. There's more to do before it's ready for a long ride. I'm also looking for a GS, so I have a ride while I get the bike repainted and fixed up otherwise.

Glad to see you again, Jeff!

I'm a little further away from you now, just over the border in Oregon.

Whhh whhh Testing testing tap tap tap does this even work anymore?

Hiya Jeff and all the rest of you. My old /7 schtarker has been off road last 5 years also! I’d post a pic with the chooks sitting on it, will have to work out how.

The old bus came to life once I’d replaced the rotten gaiters and err stripped and cleaned the green fuel goo from the barbs (cheap chinee sonic cleaner done good). Got vintage rego just in time for chilly wet winter weather so … only got a few short blasts in. Pleasantly surprised with how well it pulled and sits on the road. Thought I’d be disappointed after my dalliance with the TDM900
(a lovely motor that)

Anyhoo looks like I’ve some catching up to do with posts and that. Good to see this place and you lot still lives!

Actually … popped in looking for the Ozboxerworks crew planning our Spring Run .. where dat?

cheers
