Brake reasembly

1984 R100S

So I'm finally getting around to putting my Wheels back on. I really can't fathom where the time goes.

I found that I had leaking from the brake actuating cam.

I've replaced the four O rings.

Does the installation of the shoes look correct in relation to the cam lobes?

The spring by the cam is looser than the top one.

I'm using a moly type high temp grease (Bel Ray assembly lube) thinking I'll use that on the drive splines as well, unless there is a better solution you might know.

Having some problem pushing the brake actuating arm back on the splines.

Is there a proper technique: ie spreading the gap with a screwdriver?

Yes. Are all the points where the shoes make contact with the round locating pin and cam lubed?

The spring near the cam will tighten up when the brakes are adjusted

Clean the splines on the shaft and the splines in the arm with brake cleaner and a toothbrush.
Lube with a bit of grease and tap the arm on with a plastic hammer.
Prying it open (a bit) with a screwdriver isn't usually necessary, but if all else fails....
You might have to try it in a few positions so it ends up about 90 degrees to the rod with the wheel on and the brake firmly applied.
