I know things have changed in recent years.
Who is now the reliable go-to for head work, rear splines, etc ?
The times they are a changin'

Looks like these specialists are a dying breed.(literally)
Many have retired and just can't be bothered anymore.
I personally would much rather be riding than wrenching.
Hope some yung'uns come along to fill the gap.
I doubt many will want to deal with a bunch of old airheads anyhow.
They've all heard that the cheapest thing on an old BMW is its owner.

I believe in the US that Boxer 2 Valve can get this sort of thing done for you.

Lucky for me I have all the gear here in NZ to do my own Head Work but the final drive and splines I don't have the gear for but thankfully there is a chap in Wellington NZ who can do that as and when I need it done.

I had heard, erroneously, that Randy Long was no longer an option but have since spoken with him.
Hansens,in Oregon, suffered through a fire but seem to be up and running again.
So, my plans of +/- 10 years ago may still come together- as planned !

It would be nice if I had inherited the machinist's skills of my grandfather but, alas, it was not so!

Oh, yes, Hansen's is still running and Craig says they have better fixtures for stuff than they did before the fire.
They will have the franchise through the end of the year and will be an independent repair shop after 31 December.
Great people, and Craig is always offering hints when I pick up stuff.

Ted Porter is training a guy to take over valve jobs. He's probably up and running by now. If you contact Ted, he will connect you.
