Dual breather hose help

Hi everyone,
I recently picked up a pre-1980 style airbox and starter cover, which I installed on my '83 R100RS, basically just for looks.
Of course, I had to swap the breather hoses as well, specifically I had to get the dual hose system because both the halves of the airbox I got have the hole for the breather hose to go in, so I got the breather-to-T hose, and then the T-to-filter-half hoses, which are not interchangeable from left to right from what I noticed.
Now, I very quickly noticed how the fitting of these hoses is not particularly easy, especially for the left half (which from what I understood, is the "removable" half for air filter changes)
Does anybody have some sort of tricks or suggestions to make this thing easier? Or should I just remove the hoses after the "T" junction and put some sort of PCV/breather filter and call it a day in the name of my mental sanity?
Thanks in advance!
Leo
