My wife check multiple times a week to see if the check had cleared yet.....

Dear DavidJ:
You are receiving this e-mail because of your application for a ride
certification. This note is to let you know that your ride has been
approved and although your ride documents may take a few more weeks to
arrive, your membership has also been approved and entered into the
Iron Butt Association's member database.

Welcome to the Iron Butt Association!
Now I can start planning the longer ride I've wanted to do!
Engines to Power, Turbines to Speed!

I plan on taking at least two days each direction to travel the 500 miles (~800 km) trip to the MOA national rally, this year.
I hope to avoid Interstate highways as much as possible.
See if I can bring the joy back to my motorcycling experience.

Shoot, Rob, at that pace, you could bring along a possum and not be accused of animal cruelty. Just an idea. Possum bonding on the open road. Has a nice ring to it.

Dave, did you send in ride stuff about a ride you did? I've done 823 miles on the RS but it tied me in knots. I'd like to try a more upright bike for the high mileage, or get younger and healthier somehow.

Take extra days for unplanned back road discovery. Eat at small diners.

Hell, I might even stay in motels! :o
(I'm not allowed in the Airheads tent, anymore.)

Hemorrhoids are painful, swollen veins in the lower portion of the rectum or anus.

Causes, incidence, and risk factors

This condition is very common, especially during pregnancy after childbirth and riding in Iron Butt rallies. Hemorrhoids result from increased pressure in the veins of the anus. The pressure causes the veins to bulge and expand, making them painful, particularly when you are sitting.

The most common cause is straining during bowel movements. Hemorrhoids may result from constipation, sitting for long periods of time, and anal infections. In some cases they may be caused by other diseases, such as liver cirrhosis.

Internal hemorrhoids occur just inside the anus, at the beginning of the rectum. External hemorrhoids occur at the anal opening and may hang outside the anus.
Symptoms

Symptoms of hemorrhoids include:

*

Anal itching
*

Anal ache or pain, especially while sitting
*

Bright red blood on toilet tissue, stool, or in the toilet bowl
*

Pain during bowel movements
*

One or more hard tender lumps near the anus

Signs and tests

A doctor can often diagnose hemorrhoids simply by examining the rectal area. If necessary, tests that may help diagnose the problem include:

*

Stool guaiac (shows the presence of blood)
*

Sigmoidoscopy
*

Anoscopy

Treatment

Over-the-counter corticosteroid creams can reduce pain and swelling. Hemorrhoid creams with lidocaine can reduce pain. Witch hazel (applied with cotton swabs) can reduce itching. Other steps for anal itching include:

*

Wear cotton undergarments.
*

Avoid toilet tissue with perfumes or colors.
*

Try not to scratch the area.

I'm thinking that might get you a thousand miles and some fun in the saddle, but not an iron butt cert.
Here is the link to the Official Iron Butt Rides and Ride Rules...

The Saddlesore 1000. I had rolled back in from the smokyes on a Wednesday after completing 956 miles that day.
The wife joked that I should put back on my gear and ride the other 50 miles for the Iron Butt but I told her that
I hadn't done the proper paper work so...... I spent the next day reading the rules and looking over the bike and
went back out that Friday and did the full 1k here in Texas. Looped from Dallas, to Odessa, to San Antonio,
Austin, then back to Dallas. I did the whole thing in about 16 hours including stops.

Next ride will be the Saddlesore 3000 ( I had to complete the 1k before being allowed to do the 3k ).
I have started the planning now!!!!

Just setting in a chair for 16-18 hours can be painful for some. I was on the R1100RSL which does sit a little more
upright but not like an RT. Good ergonomics is a must. For me, I start hurting around the 200 mile mark, but
by the 400 mile mark my bones get adjusted and my body stops nagging me (or my nerves get so over worked that
they just stop reporting) :-)

Record keeping and understanding their rules is very important.
It could mean having to doing the ride over again.

Here is "some" of the ride stuff I sent in......
