No personal involvement- just passing the info on.
Recently posted on GovDeals.com under Motorcycles: HERE IS A 1974 BMW R90/6 MOTORCYCLE. LOOKS GOOD, NEEDS SOME WORK TO GET IT RUNNING. DOES NOT CRANK. THE TIRES ARE LIKE NEW, BUT THE FRONT TIRE IS FLAT. THE MOTOR DOES TURN OVER WHEN PUSHED. IT WAS RUNNING WHEN WE SEIZED IT OVER A YEAR AGO. THE CYCLE LOOKS GREAT. IT WILL MAKE SOMEONE A GOOD CYCLE. SHOWING MILEAGE IS 68,144. THIS ANTIQUE NEEDS A GOOD HOME

Check out that gas tank! Probably worth more than the rest of the bike.

The gas tank is not that special, just a standard /7 police type tank as fitted to police bikes in Europe.

The tank that is on the bike for sale, the green tank, and the white tank are all referred to as "police type" tanks, presumably because they have a compartment on top. The tanks that had this compartment may or may not have been true police tanks. My understanding of how you can tell a true police tank is that it will have a conduit inside the compartment leading out through the bottom of the tank that was used for the radio wiring. I have such an early /5 tank on my R75/6. Being an early /5 tank, there is no cutout for the master cylinder so the master had to be re-located to the handlebar. I've read that later /5 tanks actually have the cutout because BMW was anticipating moving the master to the bars with the next (/6) series.

I didn't think the disk came out until 1975.

The R75/6 had it in 1974, but the R60/6 did not.
