Any idea why the additional post on these? Or who made them?
I thought they were pretty unique. I think they came off a /5.

They would make a good base for a GPS mount, if you don't know where your going.

I have those on a 82 R100 I just picked up. The flat part is for mounting hardware for windscreen (BMW OEM screen). It looks like a hop and has mounting points at the handlebar clamps thats why flat there. See if I can link you to diagram on Max BMW fiche...hold on....hope this works

I got a crummy picture of it on the "barn find" if that helps.

If don't want them, just replace with standard clamps. Lots available on flea bay

I didn't know it was a BMW screen until I looked it up on the parts fiche...thought it was some aftermarket abominati

Its actually kinda cool...going to leave it on to see how it works once get bike back on the road....bike came with a full Hannigan fairing as well..it was under another tarp and chunk of plywood but that's another story!

I used one of the BMW handlebar screens when traveling in the 80s, gave a reasonable level of protection, without the bulk of a full fairing. There are caveats re stability at speed or when passing trucks in windy conditions. See my sig photo

Just about grown up, my ex wife might try to disagree... On the photobucket site most of the muddy photos were in Peru and equador, desert photos aussi, the sig photo was taken going from areiquipa in Peru up to juliaca on the altiplano, the road was all dirt snow on the pass, I'm not sure as to ultimate altitude but itwasnotmuch less than 16,000 ft. As you can see in the photo, I got very cold and tired, had to take the front mudguard off as the front wheel got locked by the mud.
I even have some photos of Nimbin and a really nice group photo of BMW travellers in southern India the other guys had heindrich type tanks, I was really jealous! I will put them up on photobucket soon. Happy days. Charles
