Can I replace the rocker arm assemblys on my 1978R 100/7 with the ones from a 1984 800RT?

I don't know the answer BUT...
the MAXBMW website shows a kit - "11339057699 SET: RETROFIT KIT"
It says - "This rocker arm kit will not fit cylinder heads on pre-1976 airheads. The kit is used to update the rocker arms on a 1976-1984 airhead to the new 1985-1995 type. The new type has the ability to control up and down play with shimming and plastic bushings."
That sounds like '78 and '84 use the same rocker arms.

Yes you can. You just need all the associated parts. Lifters, pushrods, valves, keepers, springs all stay the same. If you need to remove the "buttons" on which the earlier style rockers sit you just make a drift long enough to fit up the hole in the head - having a "chisel shaped" head ground on it makes the job easy.
