ST final drive ...

Post by Sibbo »

I just checked the final drive oil in the ST , the bolt came out smoothly but didn't tighten up !! I've been riding around with a stripped thread ... not my doing ! Thank god it didn't just wriggle out ...a helicoil next week .The final drive hypoid is full of water , a little creamy ...replace and wonder how the water got in ?

Any ideas ?

Woops ...I meant the driveshaft hypoid is full of oil .I drained it out and it's an emulsion .I have no idea how the water got in there .

Check the boot for tears. They can deteriorate at their creases.

I will have a better look ...the boot looked OK but must obviously have something wrong with it .

So another of life's little mysteries ....the boot looks fine , no obvious cracks , rear or holes .Perhaps the clamps or letting water in ..? I'll redo them after i refill the drive shaft .

Off to get a helicoil next week , no riding this weekend ! The bloody thing has been like that since I bought the bike ! I just didn't realise last time I checked the oil .

It wasn't ME !!

I'd check the trans for water while you are poking around.

When you get a "new" bike, go completely through every aspect of it first. To buy a bike and ride it is just asking to spend a whole lot of money. Keep a log, Ask here as a last resort. Use Google for most info.
