1973 R75/5, stock.
Are the independent, Alcohol-resistant floats that Bing sells worth it? (I don't know exactly how much they cost but apparently it's high).
I have rebuilt about a Million Amal Concentrics but these will be my first CV carbs, what do I need to know?
Is the stock jetting right? (I'm at essentially Sea-level).
I have a big order going in at Huckys for fuel system/Carb bits.
The bike runs fine, this is just PM (it's new to me but it IS 38 years old).

Probably will come out the same in the end...buy 4-5 of the regular floats, one of the form/fit/function gray floats.Unclviny wrote:Are the independent, Alcohol-resistant floats that Bing sells worth it? (I don't know exactly how much they cost but apparently it's high).
Probably not...do one at a time and don't mix parts left to right...some parts are "handed".Unclviny wrote:I have rebuilt about a Million Amal Concentrics but these will be my first CV carbs, what do I need to know?
Sure...why not start there and see how the bike performs. IMO, I wouldn't get too radical with the settings then you don't know what to change or what's causing the problems.Unclviny wrote:Is the stock jetting right? (I'm at essentially Sea-level).
New to you bike...I wouldn't consider this as PM...you need to establish a baseline and go from there. At least you'll know what the settings are!Unclviny wrote:The bike runs fine, this is just PM (it's new to me but it IS 38 years old).

This is "round 1" of establishing a baseline:
Flush the Tank, new fuel line with filters, carb rebuilds, new throttle cables, new airtube O-rings, new rubbers (airtubes to carbs and carbs to head) and a new air filter.
I am also replacing all ofthe cables on the bike, wheels and brakes are next.
I think the fancy floats ain't gonna happen, I'll probably get new stock floats (and pins) from A&S.

Re: Bing 64/32/9 and /10 questions
I have the Bing alcohol resistant floats on my '84. They come with replacement carb bowls. The one thing I do not like about them is there is no overflow outlet on them. Concerned that one day I will forget to turn off the fuel taps and end up with a possible stuck float needle and end up with fuel in the head. Probably a needless worry, but at least the stock bowls have the overflow.
