I'm trying to source the bits to put X-spoked wheels on my Mono, If I were to use a R1100R front wheel with its 19" rim instead of the Mono's 18" rim what should I expect with regards the handling with the bigger wheel, after all the earlier models used that size - I can only see that the tyre choice is a little more limited. Has you mono got an alloy top yoke ? - if it has, and not the stamped metal plate that older airheads have, you should be alble to redress any issues with handling of your larger wheel by letting the forklegs slide up by half an inch.

I did this when I mounted a larger wheel on my R65 - fortunately all R65's have an alloy top yoke. (triple tree you yanks call it?)

So give it a try.

I do not know for certain, but from looking at part #s –
The R1100R and the K75S use different front spindles.
Apparently the spindle diameters ≠ as the front wheel bearings also differ in I.D.
Spacers are also different between these two models ...
I could be wrong, but Fitting an R1100R front wheel to K75S forks
does not appear to be so easy as swapping the wheel.
But then you knew that.

Depending upon your choice of 19" tire,
tire /fork brace / fender clearance or interference may possibly be an issue, too.

Beyond the mechanics of swapping, and to answer your question -
any difference in handling will be quantified primarily by the circumference of the tire used
and the comparative weight of the wheel / tire assemblies.
The diameter of the rim is actually of little consequence
except to the extent that it determines the above two factors.

More weight translates into greater steering effort (rider input) needed to affect a change of direction,
A larger circumference typically increases gyroscopic effects
also resulting in greater steering effort (rider input) needed to affect change of direction.
This will be why 19" wheels and tires with large aspect ratios are typically no longer used on street bikes.
One scenario where smaller is better.

Where are you finding 19" R1100R wheels? I can't find anywhere that lists that wheel. The R1100R was stock with either the 3.5 x 17" cast wheel, or the 2.5 x 18" Cross-spoke. The GS had a 19" wheel.

Also, earlier models did NOT use that size. They had a 1.85 x 19" front rim - same diameter, but very different from a 2.5 x 19" (or 2.5 x 18"). Making sure you have clearance for the much wider tire will be important, but the K75S had a 2.5" wide front rim, so those forks (including their triple clamps) should clear fine.

For a long time I have thought that the gyroscopic effect actually benefits our older airheads handling.
I have thought this because of the difference in handling from say 40 mph to 50 and above mph.
The heavier, larger 19" snowflake seems to reduce rubbercowness as speed increases.
Is this the case?
