Why do I (we) run tubes in tubeless tires mounted on, say, lesters or snowflakes?

I've heard of this condition. A subconscious blocking of painfull threads.

The rims on Snowflakes are not designed for tubeless tires. Don't know anything about the Lesters.

Because government legislation demands it,
corporate interest, at the behest of potential litigation, ultimately acquiesces to financial burden,
and most consumers are but little lambs following the herd and doing what they are told ...

This is nothing to do about tires, tubeless tires can be used with or without tubes,
the issue concerns "approved" rim design for tubeless use.

Some Lester wheels are designated for tubeless use -
these will be stamped as required by law - read the rim.

No flake is "approved" for use without a tube.
So, be good little lambies and do just as the shepherd says !
It's the law.

A note of caution to those considering going tubeless with flakes. Get the right tubeless valve.
A valve with a locknut inside and outside the rim would be good, as Vanzen has mentioned.

A right angle valve is available in this 'lock nut' type tubeless valve, gonna get one next week.

If you don't get the right valve, you can get a flat tyre. ime

My tubeless rear tyre is 110% flat in this pic from a leaking valve stem.
After checking the tyre for puncture marks I figured the valve was the culprit.
I also figured the only logical course of action at that time of the day up in the mountains was to go fishing.

A little valve stem manipulation and three bottles of air 5 minutes prior to lift off the next morning got my son and I 50 or so k's back to the nearest petrol station.
10 lb more air at the servo got us home.

It was not a good place to get a flat tyre late on easter monday.
I almost deliberately left the air cylinders at home too.
