cat fight going on inside my tachometer

Sounds pretty awful, at any speed above 2,000 revs. I'm unwilling to chug around town in top gear, just to preserve the peace. This undoubtedly needs something more substantial than a blast of WD40; what says the collected wisdom?

This guy had some luck:

I tried something similar, and my tach no longer sounds like I'm flaggellating hamsters within, but now I have some issues with the dash lights. Do it on the kitchen table, in a deep roasting pan so you don't lose any of the screws and other bits. Remove the screws gently, or you may split some of the posts into which they thread (DAMHIK).

There's also a chance it's just your tach cable.

Good luck!

Thanks for the link. I had issues w/ my instrument lights some time ago, and after replacing the circuit board and an oil pressure sending unit, I realized that the contact points on the instrument bulb sockets needed a minor clean up with emery cloth. Problem solved
