ROAD TRIP

Headin out this afternoon on a trip from Victoria BC to the middle of the Canadian praries to see me mom for Mother's Day.

I made it all the way to Aberdeen Saskatchewan and back to Victoria in one piece. Total trip was just over 2200 miles and the longest day was 580 miles in 11 hours.
The only problem on the road came from my K&N filters mounted to the carbs. I had some VERY heavy rain a couple of times and the filters began letting water through, causing some bogging but never caused me to stop. I also found a broken spoke nipple on the front wheel when I got home.
I was not happy whith my gas milage. At best I got about 46 MP/ImpG or 38 to the USG. During one long afternoon of headwinds I was down to 40 to the ImpG or 33 to the USG. That made for a lot of stops with my small 15L tank.
Had it not been for my heated grips and electric vest I could not have made it. There where 3 very cold and wet mountain passes as well as a nasty morning leaving Calgary in the rain at just above freezing.
Overall I was pleased with the bike. It's nice to take a 44 year old bike (with a 39 year old engine) across the country, in challanging conditions, and have the confidance that you will not be stuck on the side of the road. (I did have one whole panier full of tools and spares to help the piece of mind.)

That's a long day through those roads with that weather! Find any good places to eat?
