almost leak free

Post by mattcfish »

After all the rebuilding I've done lately, for the first time in over 20 years my /6 has no oil leaks...almost.
With the outside of the case looking so spotless and dry lately I've found a very small leak I never knew I had before.
The oil galley screw on the left side of the motor is seeping enough to be anoying. I'll have to raise the engine (because the frame is in the way) to get at it. It is screwed in with a flat screw driver type head. Looks like it could be a bugger to get out if it is at all locked in. Anybody delt with one of these before? Like I said before the leak is only anoying because it isn't leaking anywhere else. Is it worth my trouble?

The 'bum discusses this on his website...if they have to come out, clean up well, and use red loctite to seal. Be sure it's the galley plug first...maybe it's just the oil pressure sender...dunno...

Like I said, there's no mistaking where it's coming from. Not leaking enough to cause issues, just enough to be anoying.

Those screws can be difficult to get out. An impact driver and heat would be my tools.

I've spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, and beer.
The rest of it I just wasted.

Interesting product. I think the 90PSI of hot oil on the other side might prove too much for it though.

I think the bigger problem is trying to get it to capillary into a crack filled with oil, and then set and seal in that crack.
Neither seems likely.
