Rehab push rod tubes

My push rod tubes are rusty and crappy looking.
Any body rehab them with long term success. Not looking to dump 120+$ into stainless steel parts to hide under the jugs.
Can they be cleaned and painted? Or does the paint effect the sealing of the seals?

Just make sure that they are not so rusty that they are about to rust through, paint would be fine, but S/S would be forever!

AND, you wouldn't want a paint that could peel off into your engine, so paint choice could be important.

What's the year bike you have?
Since the tubes I painted on the /7 are under the piston jugs, they're mostly out of sight.
I wire brushed and painted my /7 tubes a hi temp gunmetal gray. That was some years ago. They still look fine, after a bit of a scrub-up. I did not paint the rubber seal area of the tubes.

That sounds like the right way to go.

Thanks, it's a 74, so they're under the jugs.
I thought painting would look fine, just didn't want to find out too late that it messed with the sealing ability of the seals.
Thanks again

I noticed my push rod tubes were a little rusty looking as well, they looked shit.
So I painted them with this sorta brown looking paint I had (a bit like rust colour)
They look great now, I can't get over it.

ME 109, did you paint them so they would show well next time a Roo whacks you and the bike is on its side?

Couldn't resist.
