Captains Flat Hotel

This is for the discussion of Motorcycling. The art, the science, the theory of all things related to our favorite sport... riding motorcycles.

Captains Flat Hotel

Post by ME 109 »

No time like the present to start planning the next? Boxerworks get together.

Over the weekend at Tintaldra, the attendees discussed the possibility of a run to the Captains Flat hotel.

The hotel at Captains Flat is like a ship in the desert. It just doesn't belong there. But, it is there.
A grand hotel that was apparently destined for Sydney's Bondi beach, but ended up being built at Captains Flat because it was going to be a boom town.................The main bar was re-opened just a few years ago after being closed for 40 years!

North east of Cooma and south east of Canberra is where this place is at.
I'd see this trip as being full accommodation at the hotel, lodging and meals.
There would no doubt be alternative accommodation/camping available as well.

I'll make some inquiries with the hotel in the near future.

Early April 2012 seemed to be an acceptable date.

I guess so Sibbo, but the interior is quite amazing. All original.
The main bar is 32 metres long (over 100ft)

They must have been expecting the sprawling metropolis of Captain's Flat ! A bit like what happened to Cairns after the gold discoveries .I can remember trying a pub crawl in Cairns , a schooner a call .We didn't make it . I can remember 17 pubs ... I think I can kinda .....there were a lot more .

I still reckon someone must have sent the wrong plans out :D , someone with a brickworks

Apparently, they used to hose the bar out after closing time.
The bar walls are tiled to about 7'
The miners of Captains Flat must have been a dirty lot.

There was a fair bit of lead came from the mine, and accounted for X amount of our WWII projectiles.

The war ended, the mine ended, the pub ended, the town ended.

Looks like a fine pub that will still be standing when the pyramids are gone to dust!

It was a good turn-up at Tintaldra but we should see if we can do even better at Captains Flat ..... that' s a lot of street to line the bikes up in.

cheers Mal

From memory there are 19 guests rooms along with lounges etc upstairs.
It would be good to coax some other airhead riders to come along........there must be some lurkers out there just bustin' to say hello!
