What do I have to do to prepare Sofie for her long rest?

Drain fuel tank and drain carbs.

Do I put oil down the spark plug holes and then turn engine over and then put plugs back in?

Before you put the plugs back in, watch in the plug hole and run the pistons up to TDC.

Pistons at tdc.

Face bike away from door openings etc to avoid stress build up.

And perhaps get her some motorcycle-sized earmuffs so she doesn't have to hear you whispering 'sweet nothings' to that young asian usurper.

O, and put the battery on a tender.

TDC I did not know about. Why is this??

As I have an Odyssey battery I may see if it will fit the Suzuki. Why waste $365 worth of battery.

Charlie, As the Suzuki is a Bandit I feel it is more male than female. So far I have been calling it "El Lobo".

I would keep the tank max full and not empty, this to prevent rust. That is, unless you have a plastic tank. Turn the wheels once in a while if your able to. I also turn the engine over via the backwheel, in 5th gear. but with pistons on tdc I guess it's allright not to.

At TDC the whole cylinder wall (almost) is in an oily environmment "below" the piston rings.

...and the valves are closed.

Only the two that are in the cylinder that is on the compression stroke.
(I'm sure you know that, Tim - it just slipped through your forget-ory)

Also worthwhile would be to tape up the open end of the mufflers, to stop those pesky mud-wasps building in there.
