I changed to an extended sump on my 1973 R75/5 and began noticing a "shiny spot" under the bike in the garage, it has turned into an actual oil leak so today I decided to re-snug the sump bolts. I found that one of the bolts (front, left) although not completely stripped will not tighten-up so $41.00 later I have the Helicoil kit in hand, I'll do it tomorrow.

Sounds like too much torque and not enough action.

The secret to not stripping them is to put them all in finger tight. Then apply only a slight amount of torque starting at the middle and working toward the front and back alternating sides. If you start at the front or back you will crush the gasket slightly and once the middle bolts are tightened there will be way too much torque on the ends.
Instead of Helicoiling, I've tapped the stripped ones with 7mm threads before and put in the slightly larger bolts.
