83 R65 Value?

I guy who works for me purchased a package deal of a couple of hot rod cars along with an 83 BMW R65. He is not a bike person, and does not want the bike.
I have only seen photos of the bike on his cell phone, from the photos it appears to be in good shape, with a Parabellum Scout Fairing, and BMW hard bags. He said that the bike started up and ran, he was concerned about the valve train chatter (I told him that the valve noise was bad, very bad, dump the bike fast and cheap). I offered him $800 sight un-seen, he countered with $1100, sure I can get the bike for $1000 or less.

I really do not want the bike, I already have 4 bikes and no room to put a fifth bike, but hate to pass up a deal.

If it's sound, you're right that under a grand is a very good deal. You could turn around and sell it easily for 2 (at least, in the spring). If it has some serious hidden problem, then it's probably worth about what you're offering.

Yep - fiddle with it for the Winter and flip it in the Spring.
I assume you are going to visit it soon with a real camera?
Pictures don't say everything, but they do say a lot.
It would be nice if it didn't need tires...

And yeah - a loaded R65 would part-out nicely. If I had a job I would buy the engine if it were deemed solid.
