Still working on this 5/81 R100RS.
Frame and associated bits went to the powdercoaters
yesterday.Should be finished by the end of the week.
A lot of forum members would have already found the following.
Been chasing swing arm and steering head bearings

Swing arm bearings.
Munich (Perth) FAG540619 (40x17x17) = $100.00 Ea + post
MotoBins (UK) = $40.00 Ea + post

The FAG540619 (40x17x17) is basically the 30203 (40x17x13.25) with a 17mm
inner race and a built-in external seal.

I have purchased two 30203 bearings (local BSC) and two heavy washers to suit (3+mm thick).
Cost is $14.20 per bearing. These do not have seals but Snowbum
recommends leaving the seals off anyway. The heavy washer also
covers some of the end of the rollers so that they are not entirely
open and will allow some grease to be forced out when the grease
gun is applied to the hole in the trunnion pins.

I would think that if you had a set of the earlier trunnion pins (with previous 30203)
you may be able to do away with the spacer/washer ??
Bearing and pins were altered after 1/81.

Steering Head
The steering head bearings are readily available(320/28X) 52x28x16
from BSC at $42.90 Ea.

Munich (Perth) = = $60.00 Ea + post

It is good to buy locally if you can but here in Oz
most of the parts I have bought from the UK have been
one quarter to one half of the prices here.
If you had to buy all your parts here you would not be able
to afford to rebuild a machine like this.

You are doing just fine, but you do need some inspection. Send me the air ticket and I won't charge you a dime.

Thanks Duane ,
But I don't think you would like it here at the moment.
Thirty-nine degrees C in my garage at 5pm yesterday.
9am Tuesday now and already 32 degrees in the garage.
The humidity is pretty awful too. Supposed to be a cool
(5 degrees lower here) change coming and snow on the Alps.

G'day Kutter
I paid $16.50 ea for steering head bearings from my local bearing shoppe in 2009 (a little one-bloke business in Wodonga Vic). They even had a brand-name on them, but I can't remember what it was now. I think the 30203s were $11 ea at the same time.

20C here today. It's Wednesday here too. Crikey!

39 C is a cool day in summer where I live. We have seen 44 C here at our house. In Death Valley it can get to 55C.

I am packing up now for the trip.

We had our share of +40c s last week, but it can change real quick, depending on which way the wind blows.

From the north it gets warmed up crossing around 2000 km of desert, from the south and it is around the same of the cold southern antartic ocean.

So it can change 30c in less than a day.

I get my bearings from AWB, All World Bearings, at prices around what Kutter pays, and a lot less than the other bearing factors.
