Any ideas?

Yet another R90S - this time a "barn find" on ebay UK -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-R90S-Barn ... 4cfdabc3c0 and very rough it is too.
Thing that caught my eye is the lack of DellO'rtos and the presence instead of a large single carb where the airbox should sit:

There are cables attached, so I don't think it's just resting there, plus the elegant bracketry... turbo perhaps?

At first I thought turbo as well, but the turbo sat right where that carb is now, and they didn't use a CV carb on the turbo kits. Probably some sort of home butcher job, that should fall under the "Don't start vast projects with half vast ideas" catagory.

Oddly enough, there were folks who shrunk at the task of synching multiple carbs
and thought a single mix feed would be the solution.
Even as these tractor-tech schemes resulted in long intake tracts that helped low end torque,
top-end power suffered proportionately.
This looks like some home brew variation on that theme –
You know the price, you've inspected the mc, seen the rest of it,
so make your own choice ...
but I'd simply walk away, and perhaps quickly !

Ya, I'd RUN.
Now, I suppose, if the price was $500, I might be sucked into not recognizing that it was still probably going to end up costing me more than it was going to end up being worth, and that's not even measuring the price of the pain and misery of discovering all the unseen weird shit that may have been done to that thing.

Given the evidence of the previous owners "engineering skills" that I have already seen I would be REALLY frightened about the things I can't see and I would RUN!

Looks like a POS to me. I'd rather have the ural rig at the bottom of the page.

I have to confess that I'm intrigued by the HT leads disappearing into the crankcase... wonder what that's all about. On the downside, it means that there are two extra holes in the crankcase casting. This has major implications for the prospects of returning the bike to 'original'. Not that it would stop it being a runner but the monetary value of a 'R90S is heavily rooted in its originality. Even replacing the crankcase wouldn't work... originality 'requires' matching numbers.
If it were a bit closer, I might go have a look... just for curiosity... but a 360 mile round trip just ain't worth it.
Like everyone else, I would run a mile. certainly at that sort of price. Can't believe there are 13 bids on it...

There's zero danger if me buying the bike!
It does form an interesting counterpoint to the other thread about the value of a "replica" R90S - here's a pretty much scrap bike, with valuable and hard to replace parts broken or missing, and already the fact that it's a "genuine" R90S has provoked bids to £1,000 with five days left to run.

I also would vote "walk away".

I'd be all over that if I were the one to free it from the barn, but not in a competitive bidding EBay situation. Has the "lost puppy" thing going on.
This hit local CL a while ago for $250:
If it had been an actual BSA, and not a Jap copy, I'd be mirror-polishing the cases right now......
