I'm think of fitting my 75 R90/6, with an new ignition to suit its dual plug configuration, it's nearly February and I need so garage related therapy!

The choice is limited by budget, I have been looking at the endurolast ignition, the web site is an example of how to sell complicated bike stuff online, with very comprehensive technical and fitting guides.

This ignition does also force you into fitting their replacement alternator system, which might have its advantages but as I don't run any extras that put a strain on the standard charging system, so this would be a bit of bling.

The alternative might be to go to Sachse, who provide the electronics for the endurolast, much more rough and ready, but provides a choice of curves, rev limiter etc etc

In each case I will be using my existing Dyna brown set of dual output 6v coils.

Has anyone got an direct experiences of either of these systems, theoretical comments etc etc. Silent Hektik is too expensive...

I've installed three of the Enduralast ignitions. They are well made, easy to install and seem to be trouble-free. All three were a basic install...two already had the Enduralast charging system...the third was installed along with the charging system. I have not tried to install one with the stock charging system, but I suppose it could be done with some fairly basic machining and some creativity.

I've been contemplating it. I already use an Omega adapted to fit my Enduralast alternator. I like the curves of the Enduralast ignition and the Saches unit better than the Omega, and they are much more obtainable units. There are rumors of Omega failures and I don't have a backup system anymore.
Price stands in the way for the time being. Any idea what the Saches unit goes for? It could be adapted to fit on an Enduralast Alt.

It looks as I'm going down the Sachse route, i dont think that bi really need a new generator and the Sachse kit is easier to set up than the silent hektik on the 1070 bike.

At least the euro exchange rate against the £ is much better than it used to be.

John is working on an ignition will fit the stock alt. It uses an optic
triger rather than a inductive pick up, so that there is no interfrance
from the alt. I saw a prototype last fall.

My 1987 BMW R80RT that is not charging to spec. I've enhanced grounding to the diode board, but that is not cutting the mustard.

The EDL450-AltKit Includes a new permanent magnet rotor, high output stator, remotely mounted combination electronic voltage regulator / rectifier.

The endurolast ignitions are made using Sachse components, its not a great secret it's in the very comprehensive info provided by John. The ignition I'm buying from Sachse has an optical trigger. It's obviously cheaper for me to buy direct from Europe.

Endurolast sell a 450w charging system, this replaces the stock 280w system, this is the $499 kit, they also sell kits for the stock system, one includes a new rotor and diode board, these are the parts that usually fail. You do need to check what is wrong with the existing setup, random replacement of parts can be expensive unless you feel that you want the extra capacity that the 450w system provides.

I´m down in Mexico right now and have only been surfing the net with my Ipod, so my previous reply was a bit short.

I have had some time now to look over the Sachs unit and it seems to have a lot of flexability. I´d ask Volker some questions about the optic triger. On the SH sight they speak of optic trigers haveing temperature limitations, but that could be their advertizing spin.

I know the SH is frightening expensive, but since you have one on the 1070, you have spares that you can strip off one bike if there is a problem with the other. Also the SH coils allow for a much higher energy spark which is a good thing when good petrol is hard to find. All easy for me to say, it´s not my dosh

I just rewired my conversion so that I can switch from the Boyer over to a Power Dynamo crank trigger ignition by flipping a switch and changing plug wires. It gives me 100% independent ignition back up, plus the Boyer is at a bit more low octane freindly setting while the crank trigger is set for better fuel and higher gas milage. I´ll report back over the summer and let you know if it was worth the hassel.

Thanks for your reply. Looks like the stator is the big ticket item in the $499 kit that is not in the $135 kit. I have Rick's Classic Boxer Charging book (http://www.motoelekt.com/goodstuff.htm) and will check the stator.
