Bosch starter motor

A newish Bosch starter motor recently found its way to me.
Made in Spain!
When did they start making them in Spain or have they always been?
Are there any differences between the starters from about 81 to 95?
I'm wondering whether to change my 30yo starter (ex smoker) to the new one.
Maybe that's a silly question, but I'll let you guys decide whether I'm silly or not.

Well, we KNOW you're silly, so that has nothing to do with needing a new starter.
Bosch makes parts all over the world, very little of which is made in Germany. All starters after late 76 are interchangable so I'd go for it if the price is right.
Personally I prefer the later gear reduction units because of their low amp draw, which makes my cranky old clunkers start better in cold weather. Nothing you have to worry about

Valets are made in Poland, not in France.

The one on my R65 says "Espana" and as far as I know it's a Bosch and is original.

It sounds safe to assume that my new starter (which was new in 2005) is as good as the oe. On it goes!

The starter motor on my 81RS
is a Spanish Bosch type.

Perhaps mine is Spanish too.
It's been 4 years since my starter took up smoking so I haven't seen it for a while.
Myself and the mobile auto electrician from Bega at that time had some harsh words with the starter and I'm glad to say I've only caught it smoking once since then.
However, I think it 's time to relegate the oe bosch starter to the ME109 chamber of horrors!

Just overhauled both the Spanish Bosch out of my '84 R80RT and the Valero out of my '95 R100R. The Bosch is a lot stouter build and I have swapped them out. I put the Bosch in my long term R100R.

Looks like the bike fell out of your starter.
You need a decent picnic table.
