Wixom Bag mounting on '84 R100T

I picked up some Wixom Bag on eBay a couple of years ago, and just got around to attempting to install them of late. They were from an older Moto Guzzi, so the mount brackets were very similar, but one tab was different. So I mounted the brackets and the bags, and now cannot open the seat up...as the bracket is in the way. I spoke with a friend with a set mounted on his R75/5 and he advised you must remove the pivot bar and use the seat with just the latch holding it on. Another friend also has that arrangement, though bought his with the bags and seat as described.

I really can't believe this is right. Anyone out there who will validate this arrangement or tell me otherwise?
Thanks

It's been awhile, but I seem to remember the original mounts had some special bolts with removable pins that allowed disconnecting the right bag for access under the seat.

Theoretically, the Wixoms on my /7 could be removed allowing the seat to open up. There's a spring-clip affair on the inside at the top and another clip at the bottom. However, I have my brake light wires soldered so I can't move the bags very far. Not to mention the bags would have to be empty to get to these internal clips. That would be a beyotch when touring!

I just got one of the lift-off seat kits that were offered at the time (pre Duane's website...err, pre Internet!!) shortly after I got the bike in 1980-1981 and have never looked back.

I was active on this forum a couple of years ago. When I recently tried to logon it required a new registration.
Thanks for the "Duane" fix reference.

Its not the bags that interfere but the frame brackets so the lift off seat may simply be the best solution.

I don't know that It will help But here goes... I put Krauser bags on my 74 R90S the bag mount would
hit the back of the seat cowling at the 3/4 way point. There was a shop that produced all kinds of trick
BMW tools/parts. This shop made a stud that screwed into where the hinge was. I could then pick the
seat up right off the bike. This did NOT prevent the seat from locking. This stud dropped into the sub-frame
just across from the seat pin.
