Electrical glitch...

I'm new to German bikes. Got a '76 R90/6 and got it up and running, and really like it. One oddity... the turn signal indicator light sometimes stays on. It doesn't effect the turn indicator operation, just stays on. Is this a short or something that I can track down, or is it an indication of another problem?

Welcome to the forum blindboy. Just a guess here...maybe it's your flasher relay. There's a under five dollar fix to replace the stock/spendy flasher relay with a over-counter one (it's late here now and will check tomorrow for more info). Maybe others will chime in here with mo-better direction.

I would concur that it's probably the flasher relay... not much else it can be really if the indicators themselves are working OK... however... on a /6 it will be a 4 terminal relay which isn't so easy to find aftermarket and is likely to be fairl;y expensive. Of course, there are ways to work around it so that you can use the generic 3 terminal relay... depends if you want to alter the bike wiring.

Well....here's the thread that now has a dead link to this forum. The missing forum here had a write up from "the quinner" speaking of replacing the high-high dollar OEM relay with a under five dollar one. It was an easy fix too. Maybe someone here has the write up saved.

There are several simple 'work rounds' but they all require modified wiring. If required, I can work up some wiring diagrams...

Thanks for the reply's, fellers. My BMW guru buddy concurs with y'all's diagnosis. Rather than do any re-wiring, I think I'll just find the standard BMW relay online. Meanwhile I will just ride it!
